Postcard from my Internship in Miami

EHL Students - Bachelor | 24 Oct, 2016

There is no place on Earth like Miami. In this magic city, everyone can find a way to have fun. Miami offers a fascinating diversity of entertainment opportunities, indoors or outdoors, on water or land, at day or night, there is always something to do. Thanks to the year-round, blissful weather, one can always take advantage of the iconic beaches with their sparkling, clear waters. ONLY IN MIAMI!

  • Miami Biltmore HotelRenowned for its spectacular architecture, blending classic Italian, Moorish, and Spanish styles, the Biltmore Hotel will bring you back to olden days. While you’re there, don’t miss out on enjoying a romantic dinner at the Fontana, an Italian restaurant, located in the courtyard with fountains.
  • The Standard Spa Miami BeachIf you are looking for something other than a hotel room with its complimentary hotel services, The Standard Spa might be a better fit for you, providing all the amenities of a spa, but with guest rooms as well. Surrounded by tropical gardens, not only can you indulge yourself with a variety of refreshing therapeutic treatments, but also dip into the Infinity Pool to cool off.

  • CVI.CHE 105: “When in Rome, do as the Romans”. Ceviche is one of those must-try foods, and the combination of fresh raw seafood, lime and chili will definitely arouse your appetite. Tetra de Cevishes will definitely satisfy your ceviche cravings, with 4 different popular types of fish in one place, and at a good price.
  • Mi Rinconcito MexicanoRight when you step into the restaurant, the whole ambience greets you in the way of authentic Mexican. Decorations, like Picado Banners, sombreros and flower crowns, in the colors of the Mexican national flag, hang everywhere. If you don’t know what to pick for food, ordering the combination platter No.3 will set you straight. Afterwards, you can try tostadas, fried tacos, enchiladas and three sopas, all at once.
  • La Mar by Gaston Acurio: What else is better than watching the sunset by the sea with a glass of cocktail? When the moon rises, you can enjoy the incredible night view of Miami’s skyline on the terrace. La Mar is also ready to entertain your taste buds with a collection of flavors, ranging from upscale to Asian-Peruvian fusion.

  • Pérez Art Museum Miami: Overlooking the Port of Miami, with its lush, green hanging gardens as a backdrop, the contemporary museum is a showcase of many art masterpieces. After the museum tour, you can sit down for a drink and a snack on the veranda, and enjoy the splendid bayside view.
  • Miami Design District: Once upon a time, the Miami Design District was an overlooked area. Within 15 years, it has grown into one of the most epic and vibrant neighborhoods, by integrating shopping, cultural and culinary experiences, all within the context of an award-winning architecture. Without spending a penny, you can soak up the inspiration - just bring your eyes.
  • Key BiscayneIsolated from the mainland, Key Biscayne is the ideal destination for enjoying a natural landscape. Driving all the way to its southern-most point, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is waiting for you. Aside from sunbathing, swimming and having a picnic on the top-ranked beachfront, it is also highly recommended to climb to the top of the lighthouse, where you can enjoy a 360 degree, breathtaking view of Miami.

  • Lincoln Road MallShop until you drop on Lincoln Road on Miami Beach. Strolling in between tons of well-known shops, you can always find sit-down places, where you can slow down the pace and have a nice time to enjoy a coffee.
  • WynwoodBring along friends and be prepared for the monthly Art Walk party in Wynwood, happening every second Saturday of the month. On that day, all the art galleries and retailers will open until 10 PM. A night market and a food truck festival are some of the sneak peeks of this lively evening.

  • Doggi’s Arepa Bar Where is the best place to go for Arepas? All my Venezuelan friends swear by Doggi’s Small, neat and with an ethnic interior design, the entrance is always packed with a long queue around lunch time. The famous, delicious Cachapa, wrapped around queso fresco (a typical Venezuelan cheese), will take your mind off calorie intake for a while.
  • Las Olas Café: If you happen to be on South Beach and puzzled about a location for an easy yet tummy-filling lunch, follow me to the Cuban Las Olas! The great classic, crunchy Cuban sandwich with Guava juice is a smart, quick-to-go option. Or you can step inside and order a plate of the day’s hot fare - one main and two sides. Most importantly, be sure to bring some cash, as they don't accept credit cards.

  • Mondrian South Beach Hotel Sunset Lounge: This scenic sunset lounge, facing Biscayne Bay, enjoys a terrific location, which is great for watching the sunset over Miami's downtown skyline. If you get tired from too much dancing, just lean back at the private cabanas next to the pool.
  • Basement Miami of Edition Miami BeachHidden in the luxurious EDITION hotel, the Basement club has proven to be a hot spot for nightlife. With a small ice skating rink and a four-lane bowling alley,  it definitely stands out from the crowd.
  • Ball & ChainIf you want to soak up the Latin music scene, head to club “Ball and Chain”. From Thursday through Saturday, starting at 6 pm, several of Miami’s finest jazz musicians will take over the stage. Make sure to pick one of their signature cocktails and featured small snacks to warm up before dancing all night.
