Postcard from my Internship in Brussels

EHL Students - Bachelor | 16 Sep, 2016

EHL bachelor student Edouard Bes has spent his 6-month internship at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in Brussels. Discover his tips in exploring and making the most of the capital of Europe.

Thanks to its small neighborhoods, trendy bars & restaurants, great nightlife, attractive shops, museums, as well as the many exhibitions and festivals, Brussels is one of Europe’s must-see destination.

  • Aloft Brussels Hotel: Whether for work or leisure, this is definitely the best place in town. This stylish-boutique Hotel is a bold new establishment featuring loft-inspired design for a breezy stay.
  • Pentahotel Brussels: If you are looking for a different, exciting and slightly edgy experience, choose the Penta. It has a unique style and atmosphere from the moment you step inside until you leave the hotel. You will not be disappointed.

The Brussels foodie scene is very rich, diverse and spread among countless neighborhoods. Here are a few I have selected:

  • Mamma Roma: It is the place to go if you like great pizzas. Cut in front of you and served by the weight, you will be able to taste several varieties these fresh rectangles of heaven at a time by choosing out of more than 130 original and modern recipes.
  • Belga Queen: This fine dining restaurant located in the city center used to be a bank. It was completely transformed into a traditional brasserie, elbow-to-elbow style. The contemporary architecture is linked to the gastronomy in an amazing way. It will stimulate all your senses!

  • Dandoy: One of the most famous bakery in Belgium. Don’t miss their popular home-made biscuits!

  • Atomium: Built on the model of a metal crystalline molecule enlarged 165 billion times. The most spectacular views of Brussels and Brabant from the uppermost ball. A must!
  • Delirium: Even if it is somewhat of a tourist trap, this is the place to visit! More than 2400 beers available for you to taste.

To all the serial shoppers, don’t miss this section:
  • Louise Avenue: If you are lucky enough with the weather, you will enjoy trendy and luxury shops by a sunny day.
  • City 2: At the heart of the city, you can easily spend an entire day inside. Don’t get lost!

  • John & Rose: This unique place mix café and exhibition space. Everything there is home-made, healthy and freshly prepared. The Sunday brunch is one of the best in Brussels!
  • Les fils à Maman: Want to feel at home? The warm atmosphere combined with a really nice and devoted team will definitely charm you... Really Yummy! What else?

Even if I’m not an expert in night clubs, here are some tips:
  • Spirito: Located in Porte de Namur in an old Anglican church, it has been transformed into a Belgian night temple. Dress Code? Chic & Trendy - Forget your sneakers & jeans!
  • Jeux d’hiver: Even if people say that this place is rather “posh”, it’s an amazing house with a lot of space. Ideal for a summer evening.
